Sun, Sun, Sun, Where Have You Gone?

Hi, hello, I'm back with another installment about me complaining about the darn weather. As I'm writing this it's the greyest of greys outside and it's cold, it's too bloody cold. Which brings me on nicely to what this particular post is about. Summer! Yes, let me take you through what summer was like on the boat this year (spoiler alert, gorgeous)

This would be my first summer on the boat where I wasn't spending my time between my parents and the boat doing renovations so it really gave me a good idea of whether the cold, dank and miserable winter would be worth it. So did I take the boat out in the glorious sunshine? Well..... no, no I didn't. A little thing called money and a big thing called time got in the way. I did, however, get to grow some delicious food and bask in the sun with a rum and coke at the bow of the boat. So let's start with how the boat dealt with the soaring temperature.

If you have read my previous post regarding winter on the boat, you would know that although the boat is quick to heat up it is also very quick to cool down again, the same can be said for trying to cool down the boat. I was lucky enough to be able to remove some of the panes of glass from the inside to create a bit more airflow and every chance I got, the roof would be open too. However, during the night when I had closed these up it was quick to get very hot again.

So what did I do to keep cool?

  • I didn't have a fan on the boat (I'm paying for electricity on a meter, here!) so that was out of the question, plus, would it do anything other than blow out the warm air on the boat? Probably not.

  • Probably flashed a couple of my neighbours by not wearing much

  • Moaned about how hot it was on the boat

  • Learned that even though I had the roof open this sometimes didn't help matters as the sun poured down into the living room, making it hotter.

  • Found out that I could, in fact, sweat behind my knees

  • Moaned a little more

Joking apart, I must say that having it so warm on the boat was actually heaven. I can't express how nice it is to come home from a day at work and know that the boat would be light, bright and warm, something that I miss this time of year. It's the little things like being able to shower and not make a mad dash to the bedroom to get changed before your nipples drop off. Having it light enough outside to fill the water tank up and empty the toilet. Being able to utilise the fantastic seating area at the bow of the boat, overlooking the water.

So is it worth it? Dealing with the cold and wet for a few months of sun and warmth? Absolutely, yes!

Whilst your here, please enjoy a few snaps I took on the boat over the summer months.

My music choice for this post? Another catchy tune by a band I've been listening to for about 10 years now. It's the 1975 - I'm In Love With You
