Ever thought about putting mirrors on the ceiling?

Before you ask, no I didn't put mirrors on the ceiling but it was suggested to me quite a few times by a colleague. This week is a bit of a fun one (it's not, it's only fun for me) as Saturday 12th March marked the day that the mustardy, browny vinyl came down in the bedroom.

If you've read my blog post about the changes made to the bedroom, then you would know that I decided to cover the brown vinyl by draping white fabric over it. I'll tell you now, it seemed like a great idea at the time but in reality, it didn't quite work out how I wanted it to. So, as you would expect, you get quite a bit of moisture in the bedroom from when you're asleep. And, if you're anything like me you spend a lot of time in the bedroom (get you're minds out of the gutter) which means that all that moisture has to go somewhere and usually it ends up on the ceiling and windows. Anyway, my point being, I was finding that a lot of moisture was ending up on the vinyl and not having enough room to breathe and dry out with the fabric draped over it.

The answer to all my problems I hear you ask? Tongue and groove baby! The plan was to order enough tongue and groove, paint it with mould resistant paint, get the old vinyl down, put some insulation in, cut the tongue and groove to size and screw it into the existing beams. Simple right?! Well, for once, yes it actually was!

I had the wood delivered to my parents (thank you, mum and dad!) and decided that it would be best to paint the planks before putting them up. Thankfully, my mum lent me her expert painting skills and managed to get all the planks painted in a few days which meant that me and my dad could get it done in one day.

Luckily for you, I don't think I really need to say a huge amount about the process, the pictures do most of the talking. I will say that getting the vinyl down was fairly simple if not a bit dusty, let's just say I really wished I had kept my mouth closed whilst I pulled it down. When it came to getting the planks up we had a fairly good routine going on, my dad would cut the wood, drill the screw holes where they needed to be and I would screw the planks to the ceiling beams.

To finish off the overall look of the tongue and groove, we decided to use stainless steel screws instead of nails and used screw cups so it looked a bit tidier. I'm 100% not ashamed to say that I spent the evening (well the hours I actually managed to stay awake for) just staring at the finished product, it looks bloody awesome.

So, the segment that everyone has been waiting for, music recommendation time! This week is a song that I used to love and have now just come back to. It's Trove Lo - Talking Body
